The figs
The fig is the fruit of the fig tree (Ficus carica). This fruit is originally dry and sweet in taste. It is one of the oldest known fruits.
Already around 9000 BC. the figs were grown in an early Neolithic village in the Jordan Valley, 13 km north of Jericho.
Nowadays they also grow a lot in southern European countries, such as Italy, France and Greece.
The fruits are greenish yellow or blue-violet colour. The flesh is white-pink to dark red.
Figs are false fruits: formed from the flowerbed and the flower. Both the seeds and the pulp are edible.
The figs in the Netherlands and Belgium are mainly eaten raw or preserved (preserved in sugar),
but these fruits can also be processed into jam. They have a high nutritional value and contain only 40 kcal.
What is Rum?
Rum is a liquor that is produced from the by-products of cane sugar (especially molasses) or sometimes from fresh sugar cane juice or sugar syrup.
Alcohol is produced by fermentation, and by distillation one obtains a beverage with a higher alcohol content, between 65 and 95 volume percent (depending on the method).
Usually the rum is bottled around 40 vol% alcohol.
Rum is distilled all over the world, but it has become famous through films about pirates.
FIGS JAM & RUM is available for both individuals and companies.
