Gnocchi is a type of Italian pasta. The word gnocchi, plural of the Italian gnocco, means “lump.” Asian varieties are often called “dumplings,” while the Dutch version is knoedel. Gnocchi are best known in their potato variety, gnocchi di patate, but also exist as wheat gnocchi.
In Rome’s Trastevere district, gnocchi are traditionally eaten on Thursdays (gnocchi di giovedì).
