INFORMATIONS
The fig is the fruit of trees of the genus Ficus. The fruit of the fig tree (Ficus carica) is well known. It is dry and sweet in taste.
Fresh figs are fairly widely available in Western Europe, but in the Netherlands and Belgium they are mainly eaten candied.
The fig is one of the oldest known fruits. Figs were already cultivated around 9000 BC in an early Neolithic village in the Jordan Valley, 13 kilometres north of Jericho. They grow in many southern European countries.
The fruits are green-yellow or blue-violet in colour.
The flesh is white, pink to dark red. Figs are false fruits: formed from the receptacle and the flower. Both the skin, seeds and flesh are edible.
Figs are mainly eaten raw or candied (preserved in sugar). The fruits can also be processed into jam. Fresh figs can be eaten both peeled and whole.
These fruits have a slightly laxative effect, contain only 40 kcal when eaten raw, but contain many vitamins and dietary fiber.
For these reasons, they are considered a healthy food.
Dressing Balsamico and Figs is available for both individuals and companies.
