GENERAL INFORMATION
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is a species of the lip flower family (Labiatae or Lamiaceae), genus Ocimum.
The name basil can be traced back to ancient Greek, where ‘basileus’ means king, which is also found in the alternative name royal herb. Originally, Basil is found in the regions between Central Africa and Southeast Asia.
Basil is an herb whose leaves are used in cooking.
This herb has a strong smell and aroma and is mainly used in Italian cuisine and with tomato-based dishes.
Also, a lesser-known feature of this herb is that you should only use the small, raw leaves, as this plant naturally contains toxins that make digestion difficult.
In addition, some traditional medicines, basil is described as a healing method for: arthritis, bronchitis, colds, fever, flu, stomach ulcers, rheumatism, earaches, epilepsy, heart disease, malaria (mosquito infection), sinusitis, snake bites, abdominal pain and vomiting.
It is also used to prevent hair loss and as a tonic.
