The name is after the fact that in the vineyards and, more in general, in the farm there are many plants of century cork-tree, that in the maquis represent without doubts the longevity. With their colour, the wrinkledness and the skimming of the bark give the idea of maturity, fullness and evolutive development. Sensations that we can find in our wine.

D.O.C. means: Di Origine Controllata= of controlled origin. This quality mark has been awarded to wines of superior quality produced in a limited area with certain characteristics.

WINE AREA: Montecucco D.O.C. -Tuscany-

CERTIFICATE: Organic.

YEAR OF PRODUCTION: 2016

COLOR: Deep ruby red.

GRAPE TYPE: Sangiovese 60%, Merlot20% en Cabernet Sauvignon 20%. Handpicked and carefully selected. The vineyards from which we obtain this wine are young, with enormous potential, granted by a medium structure of the soil, it is poor in organic substances and minerals and therefore suitable for production with low yields but high quality.

WINE FEATURES: Intense ruby red colour, brilliant with garnet reflections. Intense and persistent bouquet with scents of vanilla, tobacco and little ripe fruits as blueberry and cherry preserved in alcohol.
Dry taste, tasty with very good tannins and long persistence in the mouth. For its structure and tannic component the wine gives its best after 2 years from the harvest, refining well for other 10 years.

DELICIOUS WITH: Main courses on the basis of Game, grilled red meat, wild boar and seasoned cheese.

ALCOHOL %:  13,5 % Vol.

SERVE at a temperature of 18 °C after an hour that the bottle has been uncorked.

GLASSWARE: Glass for structured wines and mature wines.

CLOSURE: Cork cap.

BOTTLE: 750 ml.

STORE at room temperature not close to heat sources or places where the temperature can change very quickly.

PACKEGE: box of 6 bottles (+/- 8 Kg).

Red wine SUGHERETTAIO Montecucco is a reserve (riserva). Bled of 3 grapes. Intense and persistent bouquet with scents of vanilla, tobacco and red ripe fruit…

The vineyards of the company PIERINI & BRUGI are located in the municipality of Campagnatico in the D.O.C. Montecucco area, which is located between two of the most prestigious Tuscan D.O.C.G. areas: Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.
The cultivation of grapes is divided into two lots: The first 2.5 hectares planted with 70% Sangiovese, 11% Merlot grapes, 11% Cabernet grape and 8% Sauvignon and Syrah grape. The second plot of 0.5 hectares is only used for the cultivation of white grape Vermentino.

GRAPES: Sangiovese …

…It is an Italian, blue grape variety originating from Tuscany. Due to regional changes, there are some variations in Italy.
This blend was mentioned for the first time around 1600 in a treatise by Giovanni Vittorio Soderini on viticulture in Tuscany with the synonym Sangiogheto. The name probably derives from Sanguis Jovis or blood of Jupiter.

Merlot is an international grape variety and can be recognized mainly in the sense of smell and taste of red fruits such as cherries, berries and plums.
The wines of this grape are generally juicy and soft with long tannins.
As a result, they are often easier and younger to drink.
The name Merlot is said to be named after the blackbird in French.

Cabernet Sauvignon…

… is a very popular grape and gives
a full taste and a dark color.
It is the most commonly used grape for red wine.
The wine from this grape is considered more complex and less accessible than the also very popular Merlot.
The maturing process is very important.

CULTIVATION FORM: Cordone Speronato.

The forms of cultivation of the vine are diagrams of the methods of pruning and geometry of the rows.
The winegrower adopts this method to reduce vegetative growth and influence the quality and yield of the grapes.
After that, various crop forms have been selected and improved throughout the history of viticulture in order to obtain greater quantities and better quality of the grapes.
In conclusion this selection took place on the basis of a sort of purpose, such as: wine or fruit grapes.

Here are for an example of cultivation:

 

 

VINEYARD CARE: According to the EU Organic Farming Protocol.

VINIFICATION: The alcoholic fermentation takes place slowly for about 20 days in steel tanks of little dimensions, proceeding with manual stirring and pumping over, that together with the constant control of the temperatures, let obtain an optimum extraction of the colour, of the polyphenolic complement and a sensory evolution of the bouquets.

REFINEMENT: The malolactic fermentation takes place in Slovenian oak barrels of 550L, where the wine will refine for at least 2 years. During this period, we make regularly bâtonage to enrich the olfactory component and to better the structure of the wine. After such refinement the wine is bottled without any further process (filtrations, clarifications, etc. …). 

AGING: After 2 years the wine is bottled and then a period of aging in a bottle of at least 6 months before it is ready for sale.

AVERAGE PRODUCTION PER YEAR: 5.000 bottles.
