The name is after the presence around the vineyard of blooming woods of strawberry-tree, called in the area “Albatro” and the fruits “Albatrelle”. In the maquis, these fleshy and rough berries of a marvellous scarlet red colour, represent the typical freshness, youth and balance of a wine as, exactly, the “Albatreto”.

WINE AREA: Montecucco D.O.C. Sangiovese

D.O.C. means Di Origine Controllata = of controlled origin. This label awarded to superior quality wines produced in a limited area with certain characteristics.

CERTIFICATE: Organic.

COLOR: Intense ruby red colour.

PRODUCTION YEAR: 2019

TYPE(S) GRAPE: 90% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo  carefully handpicked.

WINE CHARACTERISTICS: Intense ruby red colour, limpid and brilliant. Vinous, fruity bouquet with scents of violet and sour black cherry. Salty dry taste, lightly tannic with good structure and aromatic persistence.

DELICIUS WITH: “Primi Piatti” (first courses) of the Maremma tradition like “Pici” and “Acquacotta” soup, white meats and poultry in general and cheese.

ALCOHOL %:  13,5% Vol.

SERVE the wine at a temperature of at least 18°C after having opened the bottle minimum one hour before.

GLASSEWARE: Glass for red wine.

CLOSURE: Cork cap.

BOTTLE: 750 ml.

STORE in a dry, cool and dark place, not near heat sources or places where the temperature can change very quickly.

PACKAGE: box of 6 bottles (+/- 8 Kg).

Description

Red wine ALBATRETO Montecucco has intense ruby red colour, limpid and brilliant. Vinous, fruity bouquet with scents of violet and sour black cherry. Salty dry taste, lightly tannic with good structure and aromatic persistence.

The vineyards of the company PIERINI & BRUGI are located in the municipality of Campagnatico in the D.O.C. Montecucco area, which is located between two of the most prestigious Tuscan D.O.C.G. areas: Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.
The cultivation of grapes is divided into two lots: a 2.5 hectare planted with 70% Sangiovese, 11% Merlot grapes, 11% Cabernet grape and 8% Sauvignon and Syrah grape.
The second plot of 0.5 hectares is only used for the cultivation of white grape Vermentino.

GRAPE: Sangiovese…

… Is an Italian grape, blue grape from Tuscany. Due to regional mutations, he knows various forms in Italy.
This type is mentioned for the first time around 1600 in a treatise by Giovanni Vittorio Soderini about wine growing in Tuscany under the synonym Sangiogheto. The name probably comes from Sanguis Jovis or blood from Jupiter.

Ciliegiolo around 1600 this variety is first mentioned by botanist Vettorio Soderini, who in a treatise described a number of grape varieties that were found in Tuscany and Florence.
Here the Ciliegiolo is described as a grape in large clusters of large grapes with a fragrant sweet taste, which come at their best in warm climates. The wine has an intense red color, aromas of cherry, strawberry and spice.
It lacks a bit of good acidity and that is why it fits so well with the Sangiovese grape.

CULTIVATION FORM: Cordone Speronato

The forms of cultivation of the vine are diagrams of the methods of pruning and geometry of the rows.
The winegrower adopts this method to reduce vegetative growth and influence the quality and yield of the grapes.
After that, various crop forms have been selected and improved throughout the history of viticulture in order to obtain greater quantities and better quality of the grapes.
In conclusion this selection took place on the basis of a sort of purpose, such as: wine or fruit grapes.

CARE OF THE VINEYARD: According to the EU Organic farming protocol.

VINIFICATION: The alcoholic fermentation takes place slowly for about 18 days in steel tanks of little dimensions, with stirring and frequent pumping over.
The constant temperature control allows a good extraction of polyphenolic substances and an optimum fermentative evolution.

FERMENTATION: In small stainless steel vessels where to keep constant at the fermentation temperature is 18 °C.

REFINEMENT: The malolactic fermentation takes place regularly after the vinification.
After that follows the bottle refinement that closes
the evolution of this wine.

AGING: This process continues in the bottle until the time of sale.

AVAREGE YEARLY PRODUCTION: 10.000 bottles.
